My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Miss Dahlia - this little girl is so sweet and yet afraid to be touched! She was surrendered by her people to a shelter and it became obvious she needed more than the shelter could offer. About three years and around 16 pounds we believe she may have spent her entire life in a back yard without ever being required to interact with people physically.

Since being in a foster home she has made great improvement. She actually likes people! She is exuberant when her foster people come home and willingly comes to touch a hand or momentarily put her paws on a lap or even bump them with her nose. She has accepted leashing and, reluctantly, petting while leashed. This little girl is brilliant, too smart for her own good, and smart breeds tend to be a little more suspicious of new people and activity, so getting her to truly accept and seek out pets and affection will take some time.

Dahlia is a sweet girl. She is extremely treat motivated and will take treats gently from a hand. She loves her crate and will go in without a fight. Often she will go outside, do her business, then beg to be let back in just so she can chill out in her crate. She loves dogs and will hang out with and keep most any dog company. All those things she has down pat.

She may eventually make a great agility dog too! She does not like to toilet on a hard surface and has become adept at going over a three foot fence and back so she can toilet in an area that better suits her. That being said, this sweetheart may enjoy being presented with physical challenges if there are treats involved!

Dahlia's ideal human/s will have a huge heart and a lot of patience. Just like a flower, tend to her needs and you will see her blossom! If you believe that is you, then please get in touch with us. You may be just the person that can bring Dahlia around 100%. You can message us at throwmeabonerescue@gmail.com. To apply to adopt read on or go directly to throwmeabonedogrescue.org/adoption-process.

All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - the link is found on the Adoption Process page. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live.

Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
