My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oh Burnice!!! This stout little girl is sure to melt the hearts of anyone who comes to meet her. And her story will tug at it too. Burnice belonged to a homeless man and lived with him in a tent. Another homeless person decided to set that tent on fire after a feud and, though they made it out alive, Burnice had burns all over including her face, feet, ears, and several spots where bits of burning tent fell on her. She nearly lost her right eye and ear but you would never know how bad it was now. Sure, she has spots where she has healed but we don't know if the hair will grow back. Everywhere else the hair has begun growing back. What was never damaged through this whole process is her love and trust for people and her happy spirit!

It is comically clear she lived with a homeless person. There is just something different about dogs who've had that life. You see, their people are literally their pack, and they share everything. So - Burnice had a very hard time at first understanding why her fosters didn't share every single thing they were eating with her. She only occasionally forgets herself now and may beg but it's really cute and she stops quickly when corrected. Also evidence of her former life? Her stout, voluptuous body - a whopping 20 pounds! She probably should weigh closer to 15 pounds.

Burnice LOVES to be loved and it is a blast to watch her play with toys! Her joy is contagious. She does get along great with most other small dogs but large dogs are not for her and an occasional small dog just rubs her the wrong way for some reason. Any children in the household should be over ten years old - ya gotta love a doxie attitude. And when she's in her crate (which she loves now) she doesn't like most anyone to disturb her beauty sleep by getting too close.

If you have been looking for a dog that will remind you daily how to overcome against all odds and maintain a very positive attitude through adversity then you need to meet Burnice. Read on or go to throwmeabonedogrescue.org/adoption-process

All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - the link is found of the Adoption Process page. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live.

Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
