Here's what the humans have to say about me:
In St. Johns, Florida
Lucy, 2 year old female Australian Shepherd, 35 pounds, spayed and fully vaccinated.
Lucy is a very loving dog and loves to snuggle and hug, but she is also stubborn and wants to get her way. She is crate trained and housebroken. In the time we have had her, she has never had an accident in the house. She loves her toys and needs tuff toys or there will be shredded toys to clean up. She walks on leash ok, and understands basic sit, stay, come commands.
Lucy can JUMP! She can easily jump 6 feet from a standstill. A 5 foot fence means nothing to her if she wants to be on the other side. Lucy has jumped out of our interior fences, but never tried to leave the property by jumping the shorter 4 foot fence around the property.
She loves the water. Every chance she gets, she is playing in the pond. She needs to be an indoor dog because she likes human companionship.
Generally, Lucy gets along with other dogs, but has shown a tendency to jump on dogs going into and out of doors. This unusual behavior has been a challenge to correct, so we have to let her out the door last….rather than just opening up the door to let all the dogs out.
Lucy would do best as the only dog, but would probably do well with a nonthreatening, submissive, playmate. She can get very anxious and excited around a lot of barking dogs. Lucy loves to play with humans. Even though she is very athletic, she doesn’t have the focus to be a competitive “sport” dog such as flyball or Frisbee.
She has not been tested with cats.
Lucy needs to go to a home that understands herding breeds because she can be nippy and she needs a strong alpha person to lead her. Not recommended for families with small children as she probably would not react well to screaming, playing children.
