My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ribs!

We have had Ribs for about two months now, trying to get him healthy and happy and ready for a forever home.

Ribs was picked up as a stray by a family member of one of our adopters. This great rescuer immediately took Ribs to the vet -- and it is a good thing he did. Ribs was extremely thin (22 lbs!) and had a very heavy worm load. He would not have lived much longer in that condition. At that point he was estimated to be about two years old. His finder loved and cared for him but could not keep him as they lived in an apartment, so they asked us to help find him a forever home.

We fed Ribs for about a month until he was strong enough to be neutered. At that point he weighed 32 lbs and his age was revised to about one year old. We believe he may have been even a bit younger since he has not only gained weight, but has also grown in length and height since he originally came to us.

He is now a healthy boy who acts very puppy-ish, so we think estimating his age at about a year is probably fair. He is house trained to a doggy door at his foster home and has not had an accident even once, which is pretty great considering his life on the streets. We do not have a breed guess. His face is squarish so one vet record says "pit mix" but we really do not think that is probably right. He may have Mountain Cur (based on putting his picture in a dog identifier website) or maybe Staffie. He is a very nice mid-sized dog -- not big or small -- and about 38-40 lbs now.

He plays great with dogs of all sizes and ages. He is a little timid around strangers, but warms up quickly. He may not show great at a meet and greet since he is initially nervous, so he will need an adopter who understands that and is willing to give him a day to get used to them. He may do best in a home with a confident doggy companion to make him feel safe and show him the ropes.
