My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Aspen
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 4 – 5 months old
WEIGHT: About 6.5 pounds (may grow 1-2 more pounds)
DOGS/CATS: Great with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Should be fine with older, mature children (10 years and older)

Meet one of the newest CRT puppies – Aspen! She is sweet and adorable.

In mid May, we received a call asking if we would be willing to help with a hoarding situation in the Dallas area where there were over 40 Chihuahuas. CRT responded to that call by rescuing several Chihuahuas of all ages. Aspen was one of the younger Chihuahuas we rescued. She is an adorable young puppy.

Aspen is a fun and playful puppy! She loves the other small dogs in her foster home. Aspen runs and tumbles with her siblings. She also enjoys racing with them in the house. Aspen explores everything in life. One of her favorite things to do is to run and play in the back yard. Aspen LOVES toys. She literally cleans out the toy box and carries toys all over the house with her! She will carry them from one dog bed to another to make sure one is always close at hand. Aspen is so good natured!

Aspen adores her family. Aspen is a little shy and cautious when she first meets you. We think she was not socialized much in her original home, but she is gaining confidence! We are looking for an experienced family who will be patient with her. Aspen may take 5-7 days to get comfortable in her new forever home. Once she gets comfortable, she is very friendly. She loves to cuddle. Her routine is play hard, then run over to you to get love and snuggles. Sometimes she will fall sound asleep on your lap for a quick nap. Then it is quickly back to playing. Then back for more snuggles! Her joyful spirit makes us smile.

Our vet estimates that Aspen is 4 – 5 months old. She is about 6.5 pounds, and may grow another pound or so. Aspen has a beautiful tri-color coat – black, tan and white. We love the long white “stockings” on her front legs. She also has amazing brown eyes. Being a puppy, Aspen would enjoy another small dog to grow up with. (Applications will not be considered where she would be the only dog). She also needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). Aspen does alert when she hears new noises. For that reason, we do not believe she would be a good fit in an apartment. Aspen would be great in a home where there was a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. There are no children in her foster home, but we believe she would do great with older mature children over the age of 10.

Aspen is very smart. She is a puppy and is learning every day. She has learned to ring the bells hanging off the backdoor in order to go outside! Now, sometimes she uses that as play time versus potty time, but we are so impressed with her who can be mad about that – LOL. She is doing a really good job on her potty training and we think she will be there in no time. She is also crate trained and will sleep in her crate throughout the night.

Aspen is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Aspen is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention.

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $378.88 adoption donation required ($350 adoption donation and $28.88 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
