My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ATTENTION SPECIAL NEEDS DOG LOVERS! ❤️
🐾❤️🐾 BRUIN 🐾❤️🐾
AKA “Bru-ski,” “Stitch,” “Bru-Bru”
Bruin came into our rescue when he was listed as “free” on Craigslist. We knew we had to make sure he did not fall into the wrong hands!
Bruin has been blind since birth. One eye needed to be removed due to extreme glaucoma. He’s making a full recovery from his surgery, and thriving in his foster home!
🐾 Age 2.
🐾 Weight 40 lbs.
🐾 Bruin seems very eager to play with his foster dog siblings, (small dogs), but due to his size as well as his post-surgery recovery, he is limited with his ability to play and has not been fully introduced yet. We believe that Bruin will most likely get along with other dogs with proper introductions.
🐾 Older children only due to the fact that he is vision impaired.
🐾 Cat friendly!
🐾 Housetrained.
🐾 Crate-trained
🐾 Bruin needs to be on medication (eye drops three times a day) for the remaining eye for the rest of his life. A low cost routine Med.
🐾 Bruin loves to run off leash in his fenced in yard. He has learned to navigate the yard in an amazing way, with no halo needed. (See video). He doesn’t run, he prances! ❤️
🐾 Knows some basic commands.
🐾 Neutered, Microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Bruin is being fostered in Milford, CT.
This is what Bruin’s foster mom has to say about him:
Bruin is much like a sighted dog in many ways. He wants to play, enjoys his toys, loves his couch time, loves his family, his cheese chews, and loves being outside. When dealing with Bruin, one must put themselves in his shoes, imagining what life is like for him not being able to see. Bruin’s new owner will have to rely on verbal commands and other means to communicate with him. Bruin is very fearful of unfamiliar sounds, people, and environments. He will sometimes react out of fear, and therefore needs a very patient and understanding owner who is willing to work with him to help him overcome these fears. Once he is confident in his space, he’s just another dog. He will curl up on the couch with you and he likes to know that someone is nearby. He’s most content with a hand on him as he rests. He relaxes immediately with a belly rub and actually falls asleep that way.
Bruins ideal home will be someone who has a great deal of patience and understanding for the needs of a blind dog. Someone who will be home with him a lot would be ideal. A large, securely fenced in yard is preferable for him to enjoy the freedom of running. We would love to find Bruin a home with another companion dog.
