My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Baxter and his companions, Molly and Toby, came to us from a rural animal control facility out of Oklahoma. They were seized by the Sheriff from their breeder/hoarder for abuse/neglect/cruelty and turned over to local animal control. We've helped this small town animal control before and when they asked if we would help again, we agreed. These poor dogs. They've never seen the sun, never felt the grass under their feet or a summer breeze, have never felt what it's like to cuddle with a human on the couch and have never been outside of their excrement-filled kennels a single day in their entire lives. They never even had names. These Schnauzers were owned by a breeder for the single purpose of breeding. They were kept in their kennels 24/7 with a makeshift tube system that attempted (unsuccessfully) to drain their bodily waste into 5 gallon buckets placed beneath them. They've never seen a vet in their entire lives. Toby and Baxter are a very unusual white/cream color, whereas Molly is gray.

All of their lives have changed for the better with us. They have been to our vet and have received their shots, been neutered/spayed and microchipped. With us, they have begun to feel human kindness and care. With us, they have gotten to see the sun and feel the grass under their feet. With us, they won't have to sit, lay and stand in their own excrement. With us, they now matter and have names.

With YOU, Baxter will continue to know kindness and love. He will continue to feel the sun on his face and grass under his feet. With YOU, he will know what it's like to cuddle with a human on the couch and sleep in a soft bed. With YOU, he will forget what his horrible past life was like. With YOU he will be a cherished part of a family.

Baxter is a male purebred Miniature Schnauzer. We believe he is around 8 years old and weighs 14 pounds. He is very sweet and curious about his new world. He was the most frightened of the three and relied heavily on his two companions, but he is starting to relax in his foster home and come out of his shell with humans. He is shy, but so much wants to love and be loved. He gets along with other dogs his size and cats. He has not been exposed to children in his foster home and we do not believe at his age that he would particularly enjoy children.

Baxter's adoption fee is $650 (that includes GROUND transport from Houston, TX to the Chicago, IL area). He has been fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped so he is ready to find a family that will love and care for him. Both Toby and Baxter have had their teeth cleaned and several teeth also needed to be pulled. He also had to be shaved down, as he was so matted with excrement we could not get him clean otherwise. Baxter is currently in a private foster home in Sheridan, TX and will remain there until adopted. We do virtual meet-and-greets with PRE-APPROVED adopters. You must fill out our adoption application and become an approved adopter prior to asking us to do a virtual meet-and-greet.

PLEASE DO NOT call or email us asking if he is still available. If his profile is visible on this site, he is still available. We are volunteers with full-time jobs, families, dogs of our own, foster dogs and other obligations. A link to our adoption application is in his profile and everything we currently know about him is included in this profile.
