About Me
Imagine being a little bit of a dog … in the golden years of your life … and the only family you’ve ever known suddenly can’t keep you. Most dogs would really struggle, maybe even shut down or act out, adjusting to such a landslide of upheaval … but not Matty!
Luckily, he came to us directly from his owner where he was the only pet, so Matty was spared the trauma of a shelter. Still, his foster home has a couple of dogs, and a couple more who come and go, and Matty did look a little shell-shocked at first. It didn’t take long for him to realize the other dogs were friendly and he could relax. Live and let live is Matty’s motto!
Matty is a perfect gentleman inside (no marking or accidents) and will tolerate a crate although he prefers to be free-roaming in the 3 rooms he is able to access. He has no trouble “holding it” overnight but appreciates more frequent breaks (every 4 hours or so) during the day.
Matty enjoys roaming a large fenced yard if you’re outside with him but would be just as happy leash walked. Matty’s favorite game is fetching a tennis ball and once in a while, he’ll just zoom around when the mood hits him.
While Matty’s not a yapper he is a bit of a nag, or undoubtedly as he sees it, an excellent communicator of his unmet needs. Some of his favorite requests include:
Let’s go inside!
It’s time to eat!
Hurry up prepping my meal!
I need to jump up on your chair so we can cuddle!
Matty had a dental appointment recently that included 18 — yes, 18 — extractions. The vet said he handled the anesthesia with no problems! Typical Matty … by the next morning he was ready for a big (soft) breakfast — Matty has a great appetite. The vet says Matty may prefer a soft food diet long-term although many dogs with major tooth loss do fine on kibble once their gums are well-healed. Now the dental work is done, Matty’s vet gives him a clean bill of health!
Matty loves to keep you company in whatever you do. If you would treasure a loving senior dog and can commit to providing a devoted forever-home, please complete an application for Matty today.
