My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Posted May 2021
This incredibly beautiful girl is Jewel. She is an akita/redbone coonhound mix. Her brother and 2 sisters have been adopted but Jewel is still with us in foster gaining confidence and getting ready to find her family. She is 6 months old and 30 lbs and growing into a real beauty! She is in a foster home with two teen girls and two male dogs and she has started running around playing with the other dogs and growing in her interaction and social skills. She is working hard on housetraining

Jewel does well with older respectful children. She met two awesome kiddos and she was kissing them while they laid on the floor watching TV – they weren’t forcing her to interact but rewarding her when she did. She would sneak over, sniff them and kiss them. Meeting new people is hard for her but she just walks away, doesn’t run and hide or react aggressively. She looks forward to going outside and is working hard on housetraining. She does great if taken out frequently. She is gaining leash manners and doing well but will get scared by a loud vehicle and try to back out of a regular collar – a harness and martingale collar is what we use with her. Like most young pups she will sometimes chew something she shouldn’t so it will be good to have a supply of appropriate chew toys for her. Jewel is learning to sit and is learning the meaning of the word “NO”. She is the sweetest girl and it has been fun for her foster mom to watch her grow and develop. Jewel’s wish list includes a home with a playful, confident dog. A fenced yard would be a huge bonus!

To apply to adopt Jewel or any of our sweeties, please check out our application.

Please note: We do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.
