Smokey is a stunner! This gorgeous guy is looking for his forever family, and he wants his new people to know these 10 things about him:
1. I am a Boerboel, and I am about 7 years old. I am a big boy, tipping the scales at 130lbs! Despite my age and size, I have lots of energy and great mobility!
2. I used to live in Louisiana with a loving family. Sadly, one day a tornado hit and my people lost everything. They had no choice but to surrender me to a shelter. Luckily, the Bullpen saw me there and said that I could come to the sanctuary!
3. I have a condition called chronic dry eye that requires daily eye drops. Don’t worry—I’ve gotten really good at holding still while humans apply the medicine!
4. I am pretty social and like almost everyone I meet. I think I could live in a home with kids over 12, as long as they weren’t too loud or rambunctious and had some previous experience/training with big dogs.
5. I’ve been friendly with the dogs here at the sanctuary, so if my new family had big dogs and were willing to give me a proper introduction to their pups, I believe I could happily live in a home with other canines.
6. I haven’t spent much time in the company of cats since coming to the Bullpen, so I don’t know if a home with felines is a good fit for me.
7. The words that best describe me are affectionate, confident, and energetic.
8. My favorite things to do are hanging with people, getting treats, and sunbathing in the yard.
9. I am housebroken and crate-trained, and I am pretty good on a leash. I also know how to use a dog door as well as basic obedience!
10. I am fully vaccinated, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

Our dogs are available for adoption nationwide but preference is given to adopters willing to do an in-person meeting. Please understand that our dogs are not adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis, but rather we strive for a "perfect placement" so we know that they will not be failed again.
