My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I'm a miracle survivor and boy am I glad I'm here to tell you about it! I was an adored puppy in Kansas, when suddenly my life changed in an instant. My owners didn't make sure I was safe, let me run into the street, and then I was hit by a car. Ouch, that was sure painful & so scary. I had a really bad limp but they didn't take me to the vet. Instead, they left me at a shelter that was so crowded & noisy. It was even scarier than being hit by a car. They took an xray and saw my hip was broken. Since the shelter doesn't have funds to fix it, they put me on 'death row' and sent out a plea to see if any rescues would save me. I waited and waited, and then the day that was to be my last become the luckiest day of my life! Dolly's Legacy said they would save me!!! And not only that, but they took me to a big hospital called Kansas State Vet Center and had special doctors look at me. They said I needed the top of my leg bone where it was broken removed. Say WHAT?! I guess I would need to go to school to know how the heck that would make me feel better, it sounded like a terrible idea! But, the very awesome vet staff at Vintage Heights Vet Hospital in Lincoln agreed, and they did my surgery right away. WOW, do I feel better!!!! I sailed through surgery & recovery like a champ! I enjoy my walks so much more now, and trail walks are my favorite. I love to explore, meet new friends, and see & smell all the exciting things out in the world. One thing I have to disclose and it's super embarrassing. Half of my butt is naked. Like really naked, cuz they shaved it. I do NOT remember agreeing to that. Sigh. But I guess it had to be that way for my big surgery. It will grow back and then I will be a beautiful milk chocolately girl like before. I have a scar too, but that's what I call my "survivor beauty mark" now. It's a sign I made it through the darkest days, and came out on the other side like a rockstar. I turn one year old in a few weeks, I want to start the next chapter before my birthday! Then next on my bucket list is to go hiking, camping, swimming, and maybe even get to see the mountains. But FIRST....I need a person or family who will take me in, promise to love me FOREVER, and then we can start checking off the things on my list. Lastly, thank you to Dolly's Legacy and the people who helped me by donating towards my care, to my friends at the vet, and the people who drove me to get me safe from the shelter. You all saved my life. My heroes. Melina is a female American Pitbull Terrier/Chocolate Lab mix who weighs 43 lbs and was born approximately 6-15-20. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventive, dewormed & started on heartworm preventive. Melina had FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery for a fractured hip and is getting around fabulously. Adoption fee is $400 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.
