My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lacey is a 1-2 year old, 24 pound beagle mix that was pulled from a shelter with too many dogs and not enough space. She was marked rescue only because she was very scared and shut down at the shelter.

Lacey quickly came out of her shell and was adopted by an older couple a few weeks after she was pulled. She was returned about six weeks later. Her adopter said she was showing some guarding issues when the male owner would come into the room where his wife was sitting or laying. She was also being bossy and dominant to another dog in the home. Since being returned, she has continued to show some of that behavior in her foster home. She can be completely normal and sweet and cute for days in a row and then become possessive of her things and space. Lacey's foster mom sets firm boundaries for her and corrects her with a firm "no" that works well! She can meet and play with other dogs and be happy and have a good time and then snap at them when she decides they no longer live up to her standards!

Lacey is looking for a rescue or adopter who is willing to work with and manage her behavior but also accept and manage her if it cannot be changed. She will likely be most successful in a one-adult home without other dogs. She loves to go on walks, play in the yard and even visit with other dogs. Lacey has been PEFECT in her last foster home. She responds well to a person who isn't afraid to give her a firm, "No. No."

A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Lacey, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs!

Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and are scheduling individual adoptions in the Waynesboro, VA area during the pandemic. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
