Spotlight on Joy: A Sweet Pup Ready for Her Forever Family

Meet Joy, a remarkable pup whose transformation from a wild, feral dog to a loving companion is nothing short of inspiring. Though she once roamed the streets on her own before turning a year old, Joy has come a long way, and you’d never guess her tumultuous past just by looking at her now.

Joy has been a busy little bee lately, and she’s eager for her moment in the spotlight. She travels well in the car and absolutely loves a Starbucks pup cup, which is her special treat. Joy has adapted beautifully to sleeping in a tent, showing her resilience and ability to adjust to new environments. While she enjoys the sand on the beach, the waves still make her a bit apprehensive—a reminder of her ongoing journey to overcome her fears.

At night, Joy does well in a kennel as long as she’s in the same room with her human family. She finds comfort in their presence and will sleep peacefully through the night. However, Joy struggles with being alone in a separate room and will bark and cry if isolated, indicating her need for close companionship and reassurance.

Joy is a sweet, loving pup who adores other dogs and enjoys snuggling up close. She thrives in the company of her furry friends and would benefit from having another dog in her new home to help her navigate and feel secure in various situations.

Northshore Humane Society is one of Louisiana's largest 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organizations. Since 1953, we have been serving the neglected and abandoned animals of the Northshore region. We are an independent, non-governmental rescue that offers veterinary care, fostering, adoption, and more. What We Do:
Adoptions: Each year, we rescue, care for and find loving homes for homeless animals in our community.

Veterinary Care:
Our community clinic provides excellent veterinary care to both our rescue pets and to beloved family pets. All funds raised through our clinic directly impact the care of the homeless animals of our rescue.

Foster:
Our foster families open their homes to homeless animals who are too young, sick or scared to be immediately adopted.

Volunteer:
Hundreds of volunteers take on a variety of tasks to help care for and promote our animals, assist administration, and represent NHS at community events, allowing more time for our staff to do their jobs efficiently.

Low-Cost Pet Health:
Through grant and corporate partners, we are able to provide a variety of low-cost pet care to people in need. These include low-cost spay/neuter opportunities, microchipping, vaccinations and more!
