My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pending: We have someone waiting to adopt him after his recovery is done. He will be going to his new home about the middle of August.

No more applications will be accepted. Dougal is doing well and will have his last heartworm treatment soon.. After he completes this sessions, he will then need recovery time before he can find a home. We have a home in the works and they are willing to wait for him.

My name is Dougal. I am a 4 year old chocolate n tan Cocker Spaniel boy. My owners adopted me from a backyard breeder in SC. I was born in February of 2017. Last year in February, I tested as heartworm positive at a vet appointment. My owners paid for a two dose treatment. I was re-tested in September of last year and again in February of this year. Both times, I still tested as heartworm positive. To do another treatment session was not a possibility, my family did not have the money to pay my vet costs again. They loved me and had a difficult time letting me go, but they needed to do the right thing to keep me healthy. That's when I came to rescue.

Besides needing heartworm treatment, a surgery date was scheduled because I wasn't neutered, I needed hernia repair and my teeth needed to be cleaned. My bloodwork was done and showed that I was still testing as heartworm positive which most likely is a result of me having a heavy, heavy load of heart worms and two doses just wasn't enough. These kind folks have been asking for donations because HW sessions are expensive. They have raised some of the funds so I have had the first of a three dose procedure. I also came here with ear issues so I have been put on a prescription diet to help get me get rid of ear infections. I am a nice cocker boy, good with both cats and dogs. I do pretty well when I am placed in my crate as long as it isn't for long hours. I say this because I needed house training help according to my owners. But, I have done really well if you just send me outside to do my business about every 4 hours, so maybe I wasn't let me outside enough.

My adoption fee is: $350.
