My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the entire post Birdie's current family has explained her situation and ideal home

Birdie is a sweet senior dog with a whole lot of spirit! She is thought to be about 10 years old, and even though she is a tri-pod (front-leg amputee) she has lots of spunk left in her and a strong sense of adventure. She is a medium-sized dog, weighing 35 lbs. Note-last pix was following her surgery in 2018.

She came to Highland County Humane Society after being found in the National Forest, but she definitely had been loved by people at some point earlier in her life. She is housetrained, likes a cozy corner on the couch, is well-mannered on a leash, and travels well in the car. She is loyal and loving but can be wary of children and unfamiliar men which often presents as aggression. Birdie has also been living in a home with two other dogs who are a little bigger than her; initially, she got along well in the pack, but it seems that with age, she is experiencing pain or ghost feelings from her amputation and is struggling with aggression toward the other two.

Her ideal forever family would be active adult(s), taking her on hikes in the woods and she would do best as an only pet. She loves to have access to a fenced yard and is skilled at using a dog-door. Because of her amputation, Birdie does have a very hard time on smooth floor surfaces and stairs, so a home with rugs or carpet where she can be with her humans on a single floor would make her happiest.

Her adoption is SPONSORED. THANK YOU Sandi O!
