Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Mr. Opie aka Dopie Opie as we like to call him. Opie is a gentle and laidback 8yo 70 lb. male lab/pointer mix who is housetrained trained, loves long walks, soaking up the sun and couch lounging. Opie is a low maintenance big ole' sweetie who prefers to be by his owner's side all day. Initially he was found as a stray then years later, found himself at ADL as an owner surrender that could no longer care for him and his best interests.
Opie would prefer to find an owner that feels comfortable allowing him to have run of the household as he does not like to be kenneled up due to his anxiety; but don't worry, you will most liking just find him sleeping the day away on the couch. He can be hit or miss with some big dogs but seems to prefer smaller dogs as he does great with his 8mth foster pup sibling as they played together well and slept by each other's side. Even though he is mostly dog friendly, he may thrive in a home where he is the only dog and definitely NO CATS. Like most seniors, he does have arthritis that requires daily pain medication but that does not stop him from enjoying and looking forward to his long outdoor walks. If you open your home up to low key Opie, you will find a loving sidekick to enjoy your days with.
*Something you should know about Opie, he's sweet as pie but struggles with anxiety, particularly separation anxiety and loud sounds like thunder. His new family will need to work with him to find a solution to reduce manage his anxiety.

Disclaimer: It is VERY difficult even for a veterinarian to tell the exact age of a dog over two years old. From one vet to another, we can get different age estimates on the same dog and they can vary by several years. We are only making an educated guess based on a few factors like teeth, fur color, and overall body condition, but for dogs who have not been given adequate vet care and food, it can be even more difficult. Every dog is an individual, and we do our very best to age appropriately but make no guarantees as to the age of any dog in our program.
