My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful little girl is Bella Blue. Her foster mom affectionately calls her “Bouncing Bella” because when she gets excited, she literally bounces, sometimes 2 feet in the air!

Bella Blue is sweet and affectionate. She is a typical velcro Aussie, she loves to lay beside you on the couch (with little regard for your personal space - lol). And she loves to give kisses - whether you are expecting them or not.

Bella Blue was left in a cage for most of her young life and did not have the socialization that she should have had, and needed. For this reason, Bella needs an adopter who has the patience and willingness to continue to work with her as she continues to master her basic commands and leash skills (she does a pretty good job with this already and she loves to go on walks.)

As Aussies can sometimes be, Bella has a stubborn side; sometimes a VERY stubborn side. She doesn’t always want to “sit” on command (but is getting much better), definitely doesn’t like to do a “down” or an “off” (but is working on this), and would sometimes rather play a game of catch me if you can when you would prefer for her to be coming to you. (But she bounces and bounces and you end up laughing at her instead of being upset with her.) She has a bit of an alpha personality and needs boundaries and routines set so that she can become the best possible family member. For this reason, Bella Blue needs to be in a home with Aussie experience.

Bella does not like it when her collar or harness is pulled on. (Her foster mom thinks that this may have been how she was forced to do things in her previous life.) Although she is learning that this doesn’t mean she is going to be harmed; she can sometimes mouth your hand if you grab her collar or harness too quickly (she has NOT bitten). She will also sometimes mouth when she gets too excited wanting your attention for some pets. A simple “no” and “leave it” and she stops and releases. Because of this, she needs to be in a home without children under the age of 12.

Bella Blue is definitely dog selective. She wants to be as high in the pack as she can be. In her foster home, she has been respectful of the senior alpha male and the strong alpha female. She has gotten along well with the two younger males who are playful and obviously lower in the pack’s order. She has, however, started fights with the two dogs that she feels are a threat to her perceived place in the pack. She would be OK as an only dog, maybe with another dog friend or two for regular play dates. If another dog is in the home, a more laid back personality would be best; a meet and greet would be required to check for compatibility.

In typical Aussie fashion, she goes for the ears and legs while playing with her foster fur siblings and she gives as much as she gets, even though they are twice her size.

Bella Blue is 4 years old and weighs about 33 pounds. She is spayed, UTD on all vaccinations, and is currently on HW and flea prevention. She has a predisposition for developing bronchitis, and her future family would need to be willing and able to monitor for signs of coughing and get her treated quickly if needed. She is currently on a (month long) antibiotic.

Bella would do best in a home where she would not be left alone for long periods of time. She will use a crate (when coaxed in with a kibble or 2) but she comes to life when she is out and able to be at your side. She needs a fenced yard where she can run off her typical Aussie energy… and where she can “bounce” right into your heart. Bella Blue is being fostered in southeastern Ohio.

If you think Bella Blue is the pup for you, you can fill out an application at https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application. All adoption fees are used to help other Aussies in need.
