My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spotlight on Raven: Spotlight on Raven: The Loyal Blue Pitt Mix
Meet Raven, a stunning blue Pitt mix with a heart as big as her beautiful, expressive eyes. Raven has been waiting for her forever home for over three years, having come from a kill shelter where her resilience and gentle spirit first shone through. Despite her past, Raven remains a picture of loyalty and love, eager to find a family that will appreciate her unique charm.
Raven's coat is a striking shade of blue, complementing her calm and easygoing demeanor. She's a true couch potato at heart, perfectly content to spend her days lounging around the house and soaking up affection. Raven is an expert in the art of relaxation and loves nothing more than curling up beside you, sharing kisses, and enjoying the comfort of home.
While Raven is a social butterfly with other dogs when they are inside a secure yard, she does have a protective streak and can be wary of dogs outside her fence. Her ideal home would be one where she can have a secure yard to call her own, as she truly thrives in a safe and familiar environment. She's also not fond of cats, so a feline-free home would be best for this sweet girl.
Raven enjoys her leisurely walks on a leash, taking her time to explore at a relaxed pace. On hot days, she has a blast splashing around in a kiddy pool, making her outdoor playtime a joy. Her affectionate nature makes her a great companion for someone who is home often and can provide the love and attention she craves.
A quiet home with a predictable routine and fewer visitors would be ideal for Raven. She might be a bit cautious around new people initially, so a couple of meet-and-greets will help her feel secure and build trust. Once she's comfortable, Raven is a devoted and protective friend who will show her true, loving self.
If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate, and laid-back companion who will thrive in a serene home environment, Raven might just be the perfect match for you. Come meet Raven and see if you're the one she's been waiting for!

More about this shelter

Northshore Humane Society is one of Louisiana's largest 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organizations. Since 1953, we have been serving the neglected and abandoned animals of the Northshore region. We are an independent, non-governmental rescue that offers veterinary care, fostering, adoption, and more. We rely solely on the support of caring people like you to fund our programs and services which profoundly benefit the animals of our community. Thank you for all of your support!

Our Mission:
To be the premier organization dedicated to enhancing and saving the lives of pets in the Northshore region through community engagements, adoption, spay and neuter programs, and sheltering.

Our Vision:
To lay the foundation for a no-kill nation. To learn more about a no-kill nation, we suggest visiting www.nokilladvocacycenter.org.

What We Do:
Adoptions: Each year, we rescue, care for and find loving homes for homeless animals in our community.

Veterinary Care:
Our community clinic provides excellent veterinary care to both our rescue pets and to beloved family pets. All funds raised through our clinic directly impact the care of the homeless animals of our rescue.

Foster:
Our foster families open their homes to homeless animals who are too young, sick or scared to be immediately adopted.

Volunteer:
Hundreds of volunteers take on a variety of tasks to help care for and promote our animals, assist administration, and represent NHS at community events, allowing more time for our staff to do their jobs efficiently.

Low-Cost Pet Health:
Through grant and corporate partners, we are able to provide a variety of low-cost pet care to people in need. These include low-cost spay/neuter opportunities, microchipping, vaccinations and more!
