Otto came to Fuzzy Pawz Rescue when his family could no longer care for him and we are thrilled to be able to help this very curious and loving boy a new home to call his own.

He is content to lay around during the day, especially in sunny spots, but still occasionally gets the zoomies and will run around the house with a toy begging you to chase him. He does very well on a leash and enjoys going on walks around the neighborhood to check out all the scents. Extremely loyal and an expert cuddler, he loves to end his day snuggled up on the couch with his humans, often completely draped across their laps.
As a beagle mix, Otto displays many typical beagle traits. He is very scent driven and will get easily distracted when he is on the trail of something, so he would do best in a fenced-in yard where he can roam around as he pleases and should never be off leash outside of his yard. Very aware and alert to his surroundings, he will bark at the doorbell and at sounds outside such as other dogs barking, squirrels, or noises from neighbor kids playing. He can be stubborn, but mostly just to get attention. Ignoring him or using a treat to get him to obey will almost always work, as he is very food motivated. He knows several commands, including “sit”, “stay”, “come”, “shake”, and “lay down”, but, again, is generally reluctant to listen to them unless a treat is involved.
While loyal, loving and faithful with adult humans; he does not get along with children at all. He should never be around kids younger that 15. He can also be picky about animals; he has been fine with cats that we have exposed him to but he does not like pushy/bossy or over active dogs. He would do well either as an only dog or with another dog that is calm and easy going. We have found that Otto will most often tolerate a dog that is his size, older than him and very calm and easy going. Otherwise he wants to be the one and only.
Otto was diagnosed with epilepsy back in 2020 and is on daily medication to control seizures. His seizures are usually infrequent and mild but will require at least a yearly visit to the vet check on his medication dosage. When he does have a seizure, he gets very confused and wants to be given his space until he feels normal again. Otto also has some anxiety, especially separation anxiety, and doesn’t like to be home alone for even short periods of time. It would be best for him to find a family who is home most of the time and without children. He is house-trained, but not crate-trained (we are working on this).
This little guy has so much love to give and would be thrilled to be the newest member of your family!
