My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful girl has some special requests – she wants to be sure you don’t make her hang out with other female dogs, and she would like you to know that love and patience will go a long way. Sandy would like to be the queen of her home with no other canine lady friends, but she doesn’t mind male dogs.

Sandy must have had a rough early life because she can be defensive over her body and takes a little bit to warm up to new people. If she is handled roughly she will react out of fear.

Sandy is still a young’un at 4 years old and she weighs 46 lbs. We want to help her forget her painful experiences of the past. She was successfully treated for heartworm disease earlier this year and is now healthy and ready to roll.

Our southern rescue partners pulled her out of a shelter environment so that she could get treated and be placed in a foster setting where she could learn to trust people more. She is making good progress but your quiet home without small kids is needed for her to continue coming out of her shell.

Sandy is not a dog for first-time owners, and needs that one-of-a-kind placement. We’d love to talk to you more about her.

If you are interested in meeting Sandy or any of our sweeties, please fill out the adoption application.

*Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout Maine. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
