My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kaya is one of the sweetest and most loving dogs you’ll ever meet.  She is a young girl, 1-2yrs old and about 60 pounds, but don’t worry she has plenty of puppy energy still! She is such a goofy wiggle butt, too! She saves her energy for the outside for the most part. She would love a fenced-in backyard to run in, but it’s not absolutely necessary as long as she has ample opportunities for exercise and play.  Kaya came to WISH needing ACL surgery on her right leg and she has made a full recovery. She can now take long walks and run, and she loves going for walks in the woods. Kaya absolutely loves people and whenever she sees anyone on our walks, she starts wagging her tail and wants to go to them for some love and attention.  She plays with stuffed animals, chew toys, pull toys, and sticks with equal abandon. If you take her for a ride in your car, you will have a lifelong buddy. Kaya is dog friendly, and even kid friendly! In her foster home Kaya has been great with a 10-year-old human foster brother, playful yet gentle. In the evenings, she enjoys settling on the couch and watching TV. Kaya knew certain cues when she joined us at WISH, but she has worked on a few more. She’s got “sit”, “paw”, “down”, “stand up”, and “leave it.” We are working on “let’s go” and “drop it.” She is fully house-trained. She doesn’t like crates, but she is not destructive and can be left alone all night (she has multiple dog beds but finds the couch the most comfortable place to sleep). She’s a little too enthusiastic for cats, unless you have an outgoing cat who is not intimidated by dogs. Kaya likes to be part of the action and will follow you from room to room. She does whine occasionally when seeking our attention, but she doesn’t bark much. She easily adjusted to her foster family routines, and she will make an amazing dog for an active person or family!

The adoption donation for Kaya is $300.  This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.
