My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Long read - but worth it
♥ Meet Doodle♥ - 𝐈𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞
𝙉𝙖𝙢𝙚: Doodle
𝘼𝙜𝙚: About 11
𝙒𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: About 12 lbs
𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣: Quiet/calm people, one story living, maybe another slow/low key K9 friend, calm cats
𝙃𝙤𝙗𝙗𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙨: Napping, laps, eating, resting, short/slow walks, carpet, being carried, warm baths, being near people all the time
𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙨: Floors without carpeting, stairs, high energy folks/dogs, hard to chew food, disruption in routine, energetic children

Doodle is gentle, sweet, loving companion. He is mostly blind and deaf with some mobility issues, so he is looking for a low-key, routine life with a very special person or family.
Doodle loves people and needs to be around someone most of the time. He will literally follow you wherever you go. He needs someone close, especially outside, to feel safe and reassured. He moves pretty slow and is a little wobbly in the back end but can still get around fine. An ideal home would be a home with carpeting or runners/mats throughout so he can get around without slipping. He should go in his crate (encouraged with a treat) when you are not home, so he does not endlessly look for you.

He is not the type of guy to go for hikes, walks, or jogs. He prefers to just chill out. He takes a short, slow stroll around a yard a few times a day to do his business and that is about it. He does like to relax outside….as long as the temperature is comfortable, and you are with him. He is not really a leash/harness/collar kinda guy but will use them if he must. He prefers a little freedom to wander. Don’t we all?

He will sit on your lap all day and sleep in your bed if you let him. He cannot jump up or down on a bed or your lap though, you will have to carefully pick him up and put him down. Speaking of being picked up – he cannot do stairs. So, if you have stairs in your home, he will need to be carried both up and down. If you put a bed or blanket on the floor - he will find it!

His skin is not perfect. He gets a little itchy and flakey on occasion, but so far, it is manageable with regular baths, brushing, and occasional anti-itch cream. He does like a nice warm bath and good towel dry. His big brown eyes do need occasional over the counter drops when they get dry.
He is a good eater but needs his soft or softened food because he does not have many teeth. He takes his daily thyroid medicine well with his meals. Wrap the pills up in some cheese, and he is a happy guy. He needs soft treats too. He just cannot chew the crunchy stuff well.

Yes, he does take a daily pill for his thyroid and one for inflammation/pain in his joints. The thyroid pill will always be daily, but the other may just be as needed in the future. We just are not sure yet. Other than that stuff, he does pretty well overall.

Because of his limitations, he does startle easy. He is a good sleeper but must be awakened slowly and given a minute to get his bearings. Then he is good to go.

So, is he the guy for you? It sounds like he has a lot going on, but it is quite simple....he needs a person to understand and is willing to help him with his senior needs, have a fairly regular, quiet routine, who is home often, patient, and who wants to give him love and dignity in his final years.
