My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mary Margaret came to us over a year ago, found as a stray and apparently hanging around a neighborhood for weeks. Once in rescue with us, she was taken directly to the vet as she was extremely malnourished along with chronic gastrointestinal issues. After different tests and diagnostics at our regular vet, we were referred to the specialists in Greenville. Her symptoms posed a challenge and we initially tried different meds and different diets and while they helped initially, nothing was consistent. Her vets were great though and through perseverance, finally had a solid diagnosis. Mary Margaret has lympangiesctasia or in short, she cannot absorb protein. Knowing this, her whole action plan changed and she is on new meds and a new diet. Her last checkup was great....her weight is up, protein levels are all up and she is consistently doing great. At about 7 -8 years old, MM has lots of energy; she loves to play fetch and will bring the ball back to you, loves walks, enjoys the occasional cuddle and most of all, loves to eat. Her vet is certain that they have found the key to manage this issue (it will never be cured) and she can lead a happy normal life. Her needs are not cost prohibitive, although her meal prep takes a little time. As a result, she would need to be in a home that can and would manage these needs....she would be a great companion....is extremely smart, housetrained and does fine with other animals. We would love to find that second chance for this sweet girl.....
