My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kate! Kate is guessed to be about 12 years old and weighs about 17 lbs. She was found as a matted stray and when no one came to claim her she was transferred to us. We have no idea her breed mix- she has the softest, straight silky hair. Kate is special needs as she had 3 mammary masses removed that came back as Stage 1 and Stage 2 mammary cancer.

Kate is a nice dog, but she is nervous when being approached. She will approach people on her terms for petting and likes to sit next to her people and enjoys being part of things. She will need a patient adopter who will work on building her confidence. She has never been growly or nippy, but just very scared and can be jumpy or will freeze. She has gotten along fine with the toddler in her foster home, but wouldn't be a good match for kids that want a dog to really play with. She loves other dogs and we think she would do best in a home with another dog. Kate is crate trained and doing well with potty training. She is on the quieter side in the home, but will bark at things she sees outside or around meal time. She has shown no interest in toys, but enjoys occasional playtime with her foster sister (see video).

X-rays we took of Kate show that she has some mild hip dysplasia, but it doesn't seem to bother her or affect her in any way. She also appears to have had chronic ear infections as her right ear is thickened and shriveled up a bit, so she should be monitored for re-occuring ear issues. Kate is on a special cancer-friendly raw diet with supplements and will need to be kept on this for her best interest. We cannot guarantee how the cancer will progress, but we know right now she is doing amazing and you would never know she had any underlying medical issues. Kate's adoption donation of $250 helps cover the cost her medical care.
