Here's what the humans have to say about me:
** Sly is available for foster or adoption! He is currently living in a kennel at our shelter! Email applications@chicagocaninerescue.org to set up a meet and great. **
A couple of walks with this kid and he'll be Sly-ding straight into your heart!
Sly is a 3 year old retriever mix who came to CCR with his brother from a shelter in Arkansas. Sly had a tough time in Arkansas, where he lived much of his puppyhood in a rural shelter with only his brother. They unfortunately received very little of the socialization puppies typically do to feel safe in the world! Due to this wonky upbringing, Sly is a pretty sensitive adult dog! He needs a patient, understanding human to lead him through life in the city.
The good news is that Sly is a friendly, playful, goofy boy - you just have to give him time to adjust. He's been living happily in foster care where his foster parents saw first hand how a super petrified dog can bloom into a goofy pup who loves to play play play! Sly will likely always be a slow adjuster to new things, but he's grown leaps and bounds in his confidence and bravery.
His new home will need to continue working on exposing him slowly to new things, but if his past is any indication - slow and steady wins the race for Sly! When he's comfortable, he's all knucklehead - he can jump high, run fast, and he LOVES to play with toys!
In the past, Sly has lived in homes with both other dogs and cats! Slow acclimation is always the best option, of course! But how cool that he did have those life experiences! Sly is a dog tester dog at our shelter, meaning that he often meets new dogs to help us assess their sociability! We are hopeful to find Sly the perfect match. Do you think you can help him adjust to a home life? Let us know! We'd love to set up a meet + greet!

More about this shelter
CCRF was founded in 2001 to help find permanent, loving homes for homeless dogs in our city. In just over seven years, CCRF has saved the lives of over 2,000 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies.
CCRF now assists the animals that are the MOST vulnerable in Midwest - the dogs and cats that are slated for euthanasia because they are too old, too young, injured, have disabilities, or have simply been overlooked for too long by potential adopters at other shelters.
