PATCHES was spayed 11/28/18 at Servicios Medicos Veterinarios, Sonora, Dr. Martin Figueroa DVM. PATCHES has been diagnosed with `Masticatory Muscle Myositis` (also called Eosinophilic Myositis), an autoimmune disorder that causes the muscles in her jaw to freeze up. She currently can open her mouth only about 3/8 inch wide, and is getting a diet of special soft food. This is not surgically treatable. This condition requires long term medical care, and probably cannot be cured. Patches is now on prednisone and antibiotics. UPDATE: ` PATCHES` myositis is currently stable, she is not on medication at this time. She has been on numerous protocols of steroids and antibiotics without significant improvement. If the myositis continues to be stable, she may have a normal life span. If her condition deteriorates she will require additional medical care, including medications, and that could impact her longevity. There is no further cure or surgical procedure available at this time. She has been seen by 4 vet clinics, including the most qualified specialists in Arizona. PATCHES is available for adoption as a Special Needs dog, shown by appointment only to avoid stress of adoption site. (Adoption application in advance required).
