My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sylvia is a very special young dog. She is about a year old and small for a husky, weighing only 40-45 lbs. She has one of the softest and most beautifully colored coats you will ever have the pleasure of touching. In her photos it’s easy to see the gray and white, but she also has the prettiest cream color mixed in. She is certainly beautiful…. each time I walk her people exclaim over how pretty she is. But her outward beauty isn’t the best thing about Sylvia, the best thing is her spirit. She has joie de vivre to spare!

You see, Sylvia is a dwarf. Her front legs are bowed and her eyesight is nearly gone. These are sometimes genetic traits of canine dwarfs. But Sylvia doesn’t let that stop her from being a normal dog. Most people who see her on daily walks are shocked when they are told that she is nearly blind in one eye and totally blind in the other because her retinas are detached. Rarely she will trip over a curb or bump into a tree, but after the first week or so she learned the route of our walk and her way around the house and mostly carries on as if she is a normal, sighted dog. Sylvia is on no medication for her condition.

Sylvia really enjoys playing with her toys. She doesn’t need anyone to play with her… she tosses the toy and finds it and tosses it again. She is very entertaining to watch and will make you laugh out loud. She also has a few stuffed “babies” that she loves.

She also enjoys playing with dogs, although dogs don’t understand some of her behaviors. You see she sometimes bumps into them or seems to be staring at them and other dogs consider those behaviors to be aggressive. It would take an extremely laid back and easy going dog to be Sylvia’s pack mate. But the good thing is that she isn’t going to mind being an only dog if her new family doesn’t have a brother or sister for her.

Sylvia LOVES to go on walks. She has a lot of energy (although she is not a hyper dog) and needs at least a good, energetic 30-45 minute walk everyday to keep her happy. She is excellent on a leash and has learned not to pull at all. She has very good manners.

Did I mention she is potty trained and crate trained? Yes she is! She is also independent and not a "needy" dog at all.

She could possibly develop arthritis or other health problems in the future because of her dwarfism, no one knows for sure. But her loving forever family won’t let that stop them from giving her a wonderful home just as she doesn’t let her condition stop her from living every day to its fullest. If you feel that you would love to have Sylvia as part of your family and will give her the care, home and love that she needs please contact us today for more information or to arrange to meet her.
