Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Brody is the most lovable weirdo we have ever met. 😍 Brody is one of those pups that is incredibly adorable, loves to smile and cuddle, but has quite a few quirks.
Brody’s biggest quirk is that he has a fear of men, especially men of tall stature, that causes him to bark and run from them. Since November, Brody has been living in our home with his rescue dad that is 6’5” and despite all our efforts to get him used to his rescue dad, Brody is still fearful. Brody has never tried to bite or lash out at his dad, instead he barks at him as if he were an intruder and runs away when he gets too close. Brody will go up to him when dad is in bed or sitting on the couch, but the minute he is vertical, the fear comes back. Brody may do well with some men as he has never had an issue with our make vet & he is not reactive to most men on walks or in public.
Another Brody quirk is that he has some claustrophobia. Prior to coming to rescue, Brody was an outside dog that could roam free. Since coming to rescue, he spends much more time inside than outside and loves being in his crate with the door open at most times. His claustrophobia kicks in when his crate his locked and when Brody first came to rescue, Brody ate a large amount of his bedding in his crate when locked in for a normal workday which resulted in an ER vet visit. Luckily, Brody is not destructive in the house, so when we run small errands, we leave him out or crate him in an empty crate. Brody’s claustrophobia also kicked in at a foster home with a privacy fence and he dug under the fence for some freedom. Brody did not go far from his foster house, but he did escape. At the rescue home, we have a large yard with 4ft farm fence, and he has never made any escape attempts.
The last Brody quirk is he is a picky eater and prefers some yummy goodness with his meals. Brody’s favorites are a little soft food with his kibble, cottage cheese or some chicken broth. I believe this would be easier to wean him from in a home where we could completely get rid of soft food, but with pups coming in with health conditions often, we must supplement certain rescues meals to ensure their health and Brody is not one to be left out of the good stuff.
While Brody likes other dogs, he does not spend a lot of time playing with the other dogs in the home and he prefers to spend time with his rescue mama. He loves chewing on dog bones and getting treats though. We also think Brody would probably do well with cats as he does not have a hunt drive and is very gentle when playing with the other dogs (he is usually the one getting chewed on).
Ideally, "Brodes McGee" (my fave nickname for him) would like a female-only home with a patient mama who is willing to earn his trust and give him lots of love. Brody finds security in having a bed in a crate when stressed out. When with just females, Brody is a good boy, that enjoys cuddles on the couch while watching move, stalking his mama while she works from home, cuddling in bed (though he is trained to sleep in a crate in the bedroom), and just being a goofy sweet boy.
Brody is the definition of rescue and will need a patient owner that is willing to give him plenty of time to decompress and realize he is safe and loved. Since Brody is a barker when stressed, so we do not believe he would make a good apartment pup and would probably do best in a home with not a lot of coming and going.
