My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

5/12/23: Charlie saw the vet for yearly vetting. He is healthy overall at approx 9 years of age. He would really love someone to adopt him, give him a comfy retirement life and make him their best friend.
5/31/22: Charlie had his annual on 5/2/22 and we did a fine needle aspiration on his lumps. Most were benign but one on his toe and the top of the foot was concerning for a mast cell tumor. We had those removed and vet feels that she was able to get it all. Charlie is a happy guy now! We thibk he would do best as an only pet or with (only) dogs his own size or dogs that are medium to large despite what his owners had told us. In our experience, he is not good with small dogs and therefore,we cant say how he would be with cats either. Charlie does love to ride and walks on a leash. He has a cute way of pawing at you to get your attention and he does well in the house. He is a sweet, older boy who just wants to retire to a stress free life.
Charlie and his brother from another mother,,Aldo, came to us about a week ago when their owners were evicted from their home and were left with no options but to move out of state into their parent's home and they would not allow pets. Their owners had thought that they had a home for Aldo and Charlie but at the last minute, the person began backing out of taking them. Their owners were desperate to find these boys a safe place to go as they had to be out of their home that next morning. We agreed to help them.. The boys are settling in to life without their people and are hoping that someone will see their sweet faces and fall head over heels for them. They are both older boys. Charlie is a 7 year old lab/cur mix. We will be getting them updated on their yearly vetting on 4/22/2021 and they will be up for adoption. On vet exam, Charlie was determined to have an ear infection, which he was treated for and hookworms which were treated with drontal. Overall, he is healthy however due to being an older, adult, he has developed a lump between his toes The vet stated it may be nothing or it may be cancerous. The only way to know for certain is to biopsy. The rescue will attempt to raise funds to have the tumor removed and biopsied, however we may not have the funds to have this rather expensive procedure done. Both boys are neutered and were house dogs. We were told that they are housebroken, although we never guarantee this. Their owners stated that they love to ride and don't like the leash but will walk on one. Charlie is a lover and just wants to be someone's lap dog (he doesn't realize he is a bit large to fit in the lap but being as close to you as possible is where he, ultimately, wants to be). He would enjoy spending his retirement years with a nice yard to frolic in but more importantly, a comfy bed and his person to cuddle up with when playtime was done.. Charlie deserves a stress-free home where he can live his life out in happiness and peace. Their owners stated that they have been raised with cats and bunnies and have zero issues with anyone or anything they have met or been around. They may be shy and standoffish initially but that is very normal for any dog who has everything they have known pulled out from under them and are experiencing huge changes in their lives. But they adjust fast and bounce back quite well.just give them some time to understand and acclimate to their new life.. If anyone can help Charlie find a new home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Charlie's adoption fee will be $175 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us.

More about this rescue

We are a small rescue started in September 2004. To date, we have adopted out over 1,000 dogs and cats who may not have had a second chance. We rescue the majority of our pets from kill shelters and have them thoroughly vetted prior to going to their new homes. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm checked(dogs) and dewormed. We also microchip our dogs so that they can always find their way home. Big and small, we work to rehome them all. We are always in need of donations so if you can help us to help our pets, please contact us! The more people who get involved, the more pets that we can save! You can also see our pets and/or fill out our adoption application on www.petfinder.com. We look forward to hearing from you and making that "forever match"!
