Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Little Moo, or Le Moo as we call her, is a 11-month beagle/basenji mix who currently weighs 28lbs, is super soft, and came in to HERO in mid-March needing some work with her socialization after spending her young puppy years with a family of self-proclaimed hermits. When she arrived at HERO, Moo was terrified of the other pups, barked at strangers and needed some basic house pup training.
Prior to arriving at rescue, she had only one dog experience and that as the neighbor's bigger dogs chased her (probably to play, but she was scared and they were off-leash) which caused a fear of other pups. When she first arrived, Moo shook for a couple days while the pups tried hard to win her over…and drum roll…the pack won! It took a few weeks, but Moo is now part of the pack and enjoys playing outside in the yard with them. Moo is still hesitant when meeting new pups on walks or when new ones first come into the rescue home, but she warms up quickly. When Moo plays with the other pups, she prefers playing chase and small games of keep away, but she is not one for rough play. When the pack calms down, you can usually find Moo chewing on a dog bone or laying in a dog bed staring at her human.
When it comes to human socializing, Moo falls in love quick, but she needs a little time warming up. We have been having more and more family and friends over the visit and with every visit, her reactions lessen. With the first visitors there was a lot of barking at first, followed by smelling and some loving. After several more visitors, there is now a little bit of running away at first then smelling then kisses. Since Moo is only 11 months, her socialization will continue to improve, and we have no worries of any long-lasting effects from her lack of socialization as a young pup.
As for what Moo really wants in a furever family? Mostly Moo is just a huge fan of her humans and spends her days watching her rescue mama work from home, sunbathing, chewing on dog bones & dog bowls when mama forgets to pick them up, playing fetch (well, we are working on the bring it back part 😅), and when rescue dad gets home, she is his stalker, helping him in the yard & cuddling on the recliner when it is time to relax. Moo prefers to sleep in a dog bed where she can clearly see her people or in bed or in bed, but when in bed she likes to be touching her people and can be a little bit of a bed hog, so we usually reserve bed snuggles for the mornings. She doesn't love going into her crate, but will go in on her own with a treat and keeps it clean when we leave her at home without people supervision.
