My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a snuggle bunny who will look at you like you created the moon and stars? Ding, ding, ding! Right here- Retta is for you. Though she came to us after having lived quite a difficult life, she is quickly developing her inner diva. Cozy blankets? Yes, please. Treats and belly rubbins? Of course. Soft voices, soft hands and soft food? Yep, yep and yep.
Retta is doing reeeeeeeallly well at her foster home with one of her friends, Ethel. She is fine with the other resident dogs, too. She's making tremendous strides in her potty training, and for a dog who was never welcome in a home before, we'd say she's a star student. Potty pads for the win, presently. She can be sassy (because dachshund) but wouldn't you be if you'd never had anything before? She does this funny thing where she will approach her foster mama when she's patting another dog, and gently mouth her hand off of them. She wants all the pats, all the time. We have had all of Retta's vetting completed and she is rip-roaring-ready to go to her forever chapter of love sweet love.
What to know before applying for Retta: She had a mammary mass removal with clean margins. She has 3 teeth left so she will need soft food.

If you are interested in adopting Retta, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Retta's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. All of our dogs will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and all other medical needs addressed. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
