My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Phyllis is the lucky recipient of a grant from one of our supporters that has donated toward her adoption fee. Thank you for considering our precious Phyllis- she will steal your heart!

Meet Phyllis. She's just a bitty tiny little girl at around 7 lb's and 12 years of glorious golden age.

Phyllis came to us from a no-good-crap situation. She had been bred repeatedly without proper vet care over the years. Good thing she's a strong Southern girl. Her interactions with people were about making money for someone else's pockets, not about being cherished or loved. Can you believe? IO mean, this tiny little tot just left to her own devices. When she arrived to DREAM, she had mammary tumors (due to the excessive breeding), no teeth, and a very ouchy set of eyeballs. Turns out little baby lady had chronic dry eye. (Kind of like me!) All she needs is an inexpensive drop just twice a day and she is feeling like her world is rosy. We also had her mouth beautified and cleaned and those mammary lumps removed. Wouldn't you know, she's like a new dog! Who doesn't feel better after a good makeover? This is Phyllis version 2.0! This girl has an entire new pep to her step, and all things considered, she was pretty peppy to start. We think she is just the most darling little tater out there. She bounces around on her tiptoes like she's the prima ballerina.

Because those tumors were associated with the mammary glands, she will need to be on "bump watch" for the rest of her life. If they pop up along the mammary chain, they have to come off. It's just that simple. It's not expensive - but it is necessary. They can turn into something ugly very fast.

What to know before applying for Phyllis: she has dry eyes and needs inexpensive eye drops every day, she's blind or nearly blind. (So she won't judge your hair or your outfits.) She had a mammary mass removed with clean margins. She has no teeth and needs soft food. Pretty simple stuff, really!

If you are interested in adopting Phyllis, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Phyllis's adoption fee is $200. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. All of our dogs will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and all other medical needs addressed. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
