My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET ODYSSEY!

Odyssey is a 10 year old, true street-tested, free-bird of a cat that retired from his life on the streets and is now hunting for the perfect home. After his colony caretaker noticed he seemed to be having some GI troubles, they brought him to Philly's animal control shelter for care. Because he needed somewhere soft to recover from years of zero vet care and have a chance to decompress.

Odyssey is charming in a grumpy old man way. Odyssey wants affection on his own time and manner - he does not appreciate being picked up but is always in the mood for some head scratches and will plop down next to you while purring and kneading his little toes while getting scritches. When he's done being pet or you've hit a spot he's not too into, he'll end the interaction or give a little grumble to let you know he doesn't like it. Despite being a senior guy, we've learned that Odyssey has a spunky and playful side too! He's really some into his own and bats around toys like a kitten. Odyssey enjoys soft beds, good food and catnip. Lots of catnip. Preferably in jars that he can stick his whole head in. He is an excellent cardboard cat scratcher-user and dedicated litterbox user.

After getting his tummy issues sorted out, Odyssey visited the vet where he had some painful, no good teeth extracted and was neutered. His blood work was pretty unremarkable (which is a good thing!) though he did test positive for FIV, which we all know is no big deal. Odyssey is putting on healthy weight and will need to remain on a sensitive stomach limited ingredient diet, but thankfully it’s easily found in stores and not prescription (other foods cause a bit of embarrassing litter box issues).

Odyssey has clearly led a hard life outdoors that has left him with some scars and shyness but he is making big strides in his foster home and will be a fantastic companion for someone who is looking for an independent friend to share a home with. He is used to being around other cats but we have not seen him around dogs. We'd guess that he'd do best in a home without dogs or young children, as he's ready to max and relax.

Odyssey is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He is also FeLV negative. Interested in adopting him? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
