Please help little Candi if you can. She has until April 11th to find a place to go. Candi needs a new forever home, foster home, or could even be considered for a foster to adopt.
Candi's story is almost to sad to tell. She was a beloved family member not to long ago. Candi came from a very small town with a breed ban on pit bulls. Her owners were warned several times that they would need to find her a new home as they were in violation of the city ban.
Rather than finding Candi a new home outside of the city or at least trying, they decided to move and just leave her behind. Candi was abandoned at her home when her owners left with no food, water, or shelter as the home was closed up.
She wandered the neighbor for weeks always staying close to her home in the hopes that her people would return. The neighbors being used to seeing her and not realizing she's been abandoned didn't call animal control until she became visibly skin and bones.
Candi was in deplorable condition when picked up by animal control, but she still didn't want to leave her family home. Sadly it was her loyalty that almost killed her.
Given her sad story and absolute love of people animal control does not want to put her down without at least trying to find her a home, the only caveat is that she must get a home in an area without a breed ban on pit bulls. After all she's been through she deserves a second chance!
If you can open your heart and your home to Candi she will be forever grateful!!! She's a mellow easy going girl, medium size (around 45-50 pounds), housetrained. She is extremely outgoing and friendly and so far has not shown any aggression towards the other dogs at the shelter.
Candi is a beautiful chocolate brown with a lovely shiny coat and this is even after almost starving to death. She also has a very muscular, well proportioned little body. She will be very beautiful once she gets some much needed TLC.
She has not yet been tested with cats and would be best placed as an only animal or in a home with a friendly male.
If you are interested in Candi please don't wait, she is living on borrowed time thanks to the kindness of the animal control officer who picked her up and has fallen for her. Normally all pit bulls would be immediately put down so they are really stretching to help her. She's captured their hearts this much because she has such a strong spirit.
The animal control officer said she literally pleads with her eyes to be saved. Going from a family pet with a home to this is a sad shock, this little girl is absolutely desperate!
Anyone outside on the City of Denver will qualify as a potential home. All other towns in Colorado allow pit bulls including Aurora, Thorton, Lakewood, Englewood, Colorado Springs, all of the front range, and the mountains.
