My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOTTIE BELLE ( TENNESSE)
Dottie Belle came into Rescue in November and she was in pretty bad shape. She was weak and super skinny and flea infested. She had no teeth and her bottom jaw has withered in due to bad periodontal disease. and very infected. She was probably born with a sunken eye and it ruptured at some point causing the infection. The Vet decided that the removal of the eye would benefit her as it doesn't function and it would always stay infected unless treated with eye medication for life.
Dottie had been having some episodes at night where she waking up and barking, confused as to where she is. The vet thinks she could have been suffering from Canine Cognitive Dysfunction. We have been successful treating this condition with Trazodone one hour before bed. She also sleeps with Foster Mom now and will stay in bed with no restlessness and doesn't wake up till Foster Mom does. Dottie loves to be close to Foster Mom on the couch as well. She absolutely adores food! She eats it right up and knows when the meal times are. She loves to explore outside and even though she is blind, her hearing and smell is excellent and helps her get around. Dottie is now at a healthy weight and her skin and hair is doing good. She gets along well with the other doggies in the house. She is not potty trained but if you are home with her and take her out often she will do well. When your not home she can be left in an open pen with puppy pads. Dottie loves to be talked to and cuddled. She will grunt when she wants down. She is like a bird and wants to explore and taste whatever may be on the ground. She cant see and foster mom thinks that exploring with her smell and her mouth brings her joy. Dottie deserves to be loved and cared for during this time in her life. She has already suffered to much. Taking care of an older dog may involve a little more work, but caring for one is a deeply rewarding experience for they give you so much love in return. If your interested in giving Dottie a forever home please email foster mom at mandy@unitedyorkierescue.org.
