Up for adoption in Texas: Meet Jake!
Jake is four years old and weighs 53 pounds.
He is loyal. He loves to be comfy!! He will find the perfect cozy spot to curl up, often will rest his head on pillows or blankets. He has his 'favorite' spots in the house
He is super chill and content; he prefers comfy over snuggles but when he decides he wants to be near and snuggle it is very sweet.
Jake communicates well! He knows how to get attention(often with licks or putting his paw on you) when he wants to go outside or needs water.
His favorite place to be is outside! He will lie outside and nap or guard the yard. He does not like for outsiders to be in his yard and will often harass any squirrel or bird that attempts to enter.
When he gets excited, he will wiggle his butt and give you a little twirl jump
He gets along with other dogs, but he can play a bit rough at times. A trainer who met Jake told us: Great dog. Was loose, friendly, and wiggly meeting me. He took correction well. Jake would likely do well in a supervised setting with other dogs.
His current owners say they don't have the time to do a little training with Jake for some typical Lab types of behavior: counter surfing, begging for food, and being a bit of a Houdini. We always tell our fosters and adopters never to leave a dog outside unattended and that goes for Jake, he likes to try to push his boundaries beyond the fence. :)
He would do best being fed away from other dogs and in a home with adults and adults/teenagers. He is content being left home alone. Jake is being rehomed because his owners had a young baby and don't have the time or resources to work with Jake. If you're in the Austin area we have a great positive reinforcement trainer who has already met Jake and assessed him, she'd be happy to work with you. She thinks his outlook is very bright.
Jake is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and housebroken.
