My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cruiser is about an estimated 5 year old neutered male Shepherd mix weighing 45lbs. Cruiser found himself at risk for euthanasia at a high kill shelter in Houston after being picked up as a stray. He was transported to foster care in October 2020 where he showed signs of physical and emotional abuse -- he will cower if you raise your voice or move your hand too quickly. It breaks our heart for this sweet boy!

We have worked hard to prepare Cruiser for adoption. He will need someone with a gentle hand. He needs a patient but calm environment to thrive. If pressured, he is apt to respond defensively and needs a calm and measured human to navigate any tensions. He loves the agility course at his trainer's house. He is very food motivated and loves treats!Since moving to foster with a professional trainer, Cruiser has been integrated with other dogs. Our assessment is that he would do well with another non-dominant dog. He can become over stimulated with play but has greatly improved in his ability to "dog" and is playing respectfully with the dogs in his foster home. For introductions to resident dogs, a muzzle would be advised and Cruiser is fully muzzle conditioned.

In general Cruiser has the best house manners. He hardly barks, he is house-trained, does not chew or get into anything he isn't supposed to and will go into his kennel with zero issues. He loves to snuggle and and hang out with his person. You can take him on walks and our trainer is working with him on higher traffic areas. You need to be open to working with him as this is still an area of consistent practice. He could manage hikes and going around town with someone who is able to communicate to him in an effective manner. Cruiser is capable of a LOT of things, with the right person.

We want to highlight what an amazing dog Cruiser is, but want to be realistic about the best home for him. Due to him getting overstimulated we recommend a home with no kids.

Cruiser is currently being fostered with a professional dog trainer on Whidbey Island. Our trainer will provide a detailed plan and one in depth training session with adoption.
The first step in our process is filling out an application. We will review your application as soon as we are able - there are two of us and we do the best that we can. We review applications on a first come first serve basis and look for the best fit/match for dog and applicant.
