Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at www.seniordoghaven.org under the Adoption Process tab.
Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.
Introducing Basil! This 13-year-old 45 pound Cocker Spaniel is a former therapy dog who is gentle and calm with everyone he meets. He had been experiencing some increased anxiety that he had never displayed before and his owners brought him to the vet to be euthanized. Our vet thought we might be able to help Basil and instead convinced his owners to surrender him to our rescue.
We thought it might be pain that was contributing to his sudden personality change and put him on pain and anti-anxiety medication, and he has improved greatly. (He is currently on gabapentin, fluoxetine, and trazodone, which together costs about $20 per month.) He still barks some, but usually only when he needs to go out or knows it’s mealtime. He's happy to lay on his bed and binge watch TV with you. He's a calm, gentle guy.
He is hard of hearing and has arthritis, but can hear you if you speak loudly and does fine with steps. He gets along great with the big dogs, small dogs, and cats in his foster home. We adore him and we think we can all agree, this lovely fellow deserves a shot!
