My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*** BREED EXPERIENCED OWNERS ONLY, PLEASE ***
"BEAR" is a regally handsome, 1 to 1.5 yr old, 70-75 lb., German Shepherd male who was owner surrendered to our rescue due to changes in living circumstances and also a dog fight where he was attacked by another male dog in the home. Bear is a very sweet boy, but he is still young in heart and mind; and he was permitted to be selfish, distracted and headstrong so will need consistent training. Bear is very sweet and affectionate, but can be prone to jumping on a person he loves(partially due to youthful exuberance; partially due to jealousy over attention to other dogs, and partially due to wanting to be the center of your attention). Bear was never walked on a leash before coming to the rescue nor any taught leash work. He will go this way & that, circling back to his person, getting distracted and excited, so any adopter will need to additional leash work training with him. Bear might be best as an only dog since his play style can be overbearing and rambunctious with other dogs, which can be 'offputting' to some and could lead to potential conflict. A confident, calm, purposeful experienced owner would be best for Bear, and one who is outdoorsy and athletic, since Bear is a natural athlete. He has a big heart and loves deeply and devotedly. He is a good, good boy and a sweetheart, just young had has had little direction or structure before coming into the rescue. He is very eager to please and loves praise. He is also very treat motivated. Bear has tremendous potential that with the right owner will blossom into a magnificent companion.
Bear is neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, on monthly heart-worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. This rescue does not do it's own 'shots' ... all medical care is done by a licensed, certified Veterinarian or done under their direct supervision (ex., monthly heartworm treatments &/or deworming). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.
