My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HI!!! My name is Chipster, and I'm a very special 2 year old little boy that is absolutely gorgeous! I know this because everyday my foster mom tells me how beautiful I am. Before DREAM, life was rough. I was picked up from a shelter in horrific pain where I had been for several days prior to DREAM finding out about me. It was weenie vs car....and that danged car won. WHAT?!? (Yes, I think I'm that big.) My injuries were BAD & I had been left for dead. I had a compound fracture in one of my hind legs, a crushed pelvis, a broken hip, and heart worm positive. DREAM called on their best surgeons to put me back together. They say it took LOTS of work. But look at me now! I have some pins in my leg and can walk, run, and play like nobody's business thanks to my wonderful surgeons. Even though I have heart worms you would never know it. I'm being treated for the those with a slow-kill method and that will continue until every last one of those nasty things are out of my cute little body. DREAM will take care of that expense even if I'm adopted before they are all gone. They already have all my meds needed to get to the end and will send them home with me. (My rescue is just so awesome like that!) Foster Mom tells everybody I'm a live wire! I like to go 90 miles a minute now that my bones are 95% healed.

I get along great with all my fur siblings, both male and female. We all love to play together and chase each other in the yard. I don't really know if I like cats or not because I haven't been around them, but I'm thinking that is kinda doubtful.

While I was recovering from my surgery I spent several months on total crate rest, so I've come to love my crate. I sleep in it quietly every night.

Life is so wonderful for me now that I don't have a cast on my leg, the cone of shame around my face, and am free at last to pal around the house at my leisure with the rest of the dogs. Foster Mom takes me on leash walks and everybody tells her what a handsome boy I am. I love it when she holds me close and gives me tummy rubs. I melt in her arms so the tummy rubs continue just a little bit longer. I'm very protective of my house and my foster mom and dad. Until I have been properly introduced to you and I know you are OK, you might think I’m aggressive…cuz I like to bark like a big dog. Foster Mom has learned how to introduce me to other people so I know they are OK, and she can show you how to do that. Once done, I'm your best buddy in fairly short order. I'll be giving you kisses in no time!

All in all I'm just a sweet little well-adjusted boy with lots and lots of energy and love to give. I want nothing more than to continue the wonderful life I'm enjoying with my Forever Family. For this to happen my foster mom has made a list of "MUST HAVES" for me which include:
1) An active family that wants and is willing to keep me safe and walk me on a leash and harness often
2) A securely fenced back yard for me to run and play in
3) Willing to continue my heart worm treatment until every last one of those nasty things are gone from my precious little body
4) Another young dog for me to play with (of course I would love another short stack like myself)
5) Are home a good portion of the day (I do love my people)
6) A family that will NEVER let me get over weight, go up or down stairs, or jump off furniture.
7) Keep me up to date on necessary vaccines, give me monthly heart worm and flea prevention, and have my teeth cleaned when
the vet says it's time

If you can do all these things for me for the rest of my life, I would love to meet you. I want to find my FOREVER FAMILY. My foster mom says I'm definitely a keeper! She would love to keep me as her own, but she knows she has to love me enough to let me go so she can save another one that needs help as much as I did.

Love, Chipster

If you are interested in adopting Chipster, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Chipster's adoption fee is $450. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. All of our dogs will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and all other medical needs addressed. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
