This sensitive and fun-loving good boy has taken a few laps in life before he found his way to us. He grew up with a family, but they had to give him up when they moved to take care of elderly parents. He's a big boy (70 pounds and quite tall) and is very energetic, so they decided they couldn't take him with them. A good Samaritan fostered him for a while and then placed him with a Retriever rescue, which is where we finally found him. Whew. It's been quite a journey, and that doesn't even include the plane trip he took to get to Santa Paula!
Asher was named after a ball player because that describes him perfectly--he could play fetch all day long! These are the kinds of dogs we love for search dog training, however even though his love of play is strong, he didn't have the full-time laser beam focus needed for search training.
Meet Asher!
One of the nicest things about Asher is that even though he is full of energy, he is also fairly easy going. He would make a great companion for an active person that will play fetch with him, walk, hike and run with him, love him and include him in their lives. He really is a best friend sort.
He is a mixed bag of breeds, but we think he got the best qualities of his most dominant: the agility and intelligence of Labs, the loyalty of Staffies and the ready playfulness of Cattle Dogs.
He can be a sensitive fellow and has exhibited reactivity when faced with stressful or unfamiliar situations. When he is comfortable and feels secure with a person or his surroundings, that is when he is at his best. He is a terrific and graceful athlete and would make a wonderful sporting partner. He loves to run and is quite the swimmer! He seems to be fine with cats, but not chickens!
All in all, a very nice guy looking for a very nice person to continue on his winding journey to a wonderful life...might that be you?
