Here's what the humans have to say about me:
8/15/05 - Update from the foster mom
Cleo is on her last week of taking the phenobarb. As of last week she was taking one pill every other day. We still have not seen any seizure activity.
Lanie's ear and paw are responding well to the medicine for her ear infection and dermatitis.
We are working on getting both girls an appointment to get their teeth cleaned.
They are doing well and are anxious to find a permanent home.
8/1/05 - Update from the foster mom
Cleo is being weaned off the phenobarb that she is taking for seizures. Her vet determined she was not getting any therapeutic benefit from the medicine and we had not seen any seizures since she has been with us. It has been 1 week today, August 1st, that we started weaning her off the medicine and we still have not seen any seizures. It seems as though Cleo gets a lot more playful with each passing day. She also loves to snuggle.
7/21/05 - Update from foster family
I have seen an improvement in Cleo over the past 1 & 1/2 weeks. She is more alert and playful and has developed an interest in chasing a tennis ball in addition to chasing the bigger glow-in-the-dark ball.
She is better with letting Lanie and the resident golden eat their meals without trying to take food out of their bowl. Cleo also does not eat as much grass as she has in the past and enjoys chewing on a Nylabone occasionally.
Lanie is pretty much the same sweet gal. Her main joy is chasing the tennis balls. We had a lot of fun playing with the girls in the wading pool over the 4th of July weekend.
Included is a picture of Lanie shaking off the water after getting wet and Cleo and Lanie (laying down) resting after a round of Tennis as our Resident Golden looks on trying to decide how she is going to get the tennis ball Lanie has.
Both Cleo and Lanie have come a long way since we got them and they will make wonderful additions to anyone's family.
6/28/05 - Update from foster family
We have had them over 2 weeks now and they are doing well.
Lani has come out of her shell and is now a good alert dog. If she sees something that she does not like, she will let you know. She is still for the most part very laid back. Lani loves to play tennis and the best part is that she will give you the ball for you to throw. It is so nice that she does this as our resident golden will not give it up with out a fight. Lani went to the vet last week for a manicure and pedicure. She behaved very well at the vets office.
Cleo also behaved well during the visit to the vet. She has to go back this week and have the level of phenobarb checked to make sure she is on the right dosage of seizure medicine. Thankfully, she has had no seizures. Cleo loves Nylabones and loves to chase a ball we have that makes noise when you roll it. It is hard to get a good picture of her as she generally will not stand still long enough for you to take one.
6/15/05 - Update from foster mom
We have had them for 5 days now and they are both wonderful girls, have lots of love to give and will make wonderful companions.
Cleo - is the Alpha of the pair, is energetic, inquisitive, drinks lots of water and craves attention. She will interrupt if we are giving attention to Lani or the resident golden. There is a little tugging on the leash when walking and she will walk in front of us. Bath time was no problem. She will play with a tennis ball but does not show enthusiasm for running after it. Instead, she preferred the wading pool we have for our resident golden. We are working with her on not jumping on people, eating only her own food, and not helping Lani finish hers. As for the separation anxiety, I think plenty of exercise and no more than 1/2 a bowl of water when left alone and she should be ok. She will take her pill just fine, all that we do is stuff it in a treat. She has not had any seizures and she does not let the heart murmur slow her down.
Lani - loves attention, also drinks lots of water, and is for the most part very laid back. She knows Cleo is the Alpha and that is fine with her. They tussled a little bit but it was more play than outright meanness. She will walk behind us when we take them for a walk. Bath time was also no problem. She loves to run after the tennis ball but was not interested in getting in the wading pool. To her it was just a big water dish. Lani weighs more than Cleo and personally, I believe she could stand to lose about 5 pounds. She does not show any food aggression but puts her head completely over her water dish with her lip resting on the opposite side of the dish while she drinks.
Lani and Cleo both rode in the truck home well. They will growl at each other occasionally but it is a very low growl and it is most likely one telling the other to do or not to do something. They are very much a team and need to be adopted as such. They will need a fenced in yard and someone who is willing to throw tennis balls and take them for plenty of walks. Right now we have them gated in the kitchen (no crates) and they do fine once in there. They do not like being put into the kitchen but are ok once they are there. We anticipate letting them have the run of the house along with our resident golden once we are satisfied they will not piddle anywhere. Neither Cleo and Lani are use to doing steps, but they are getting better at it. They are both getting along with our resident golden, however Cleo and the resident are currently having on and off negotiations as to who is the Alpha of the tribe.
This pair is coming to us because their owner is moving to Florida. Cleo suffers from separation anxiety and needs plenty of exercise. She is also on Phenobarb for seizures. A heart murmur was detected during her exam, but it's not serious enough for meds or restricted activity.
Lanie is food and toy aggressive and needs some training in this area.
Both are loving, wonderful dogs that get along with children and other dogs. We are not sure about cats.
