Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Rocco. Even at 2 years old he is one of the calmest dogs I’ve ever met. He is basically a rug that follows you around the house and sometimes likes to sit with you on the couch. You will never trip over him and he will never tug too hard during walks. He’s so easy on walks that even my 8-year-old son can walk him with no problem.
Speaking of walks, that’s his favorite thing! A walk at the park is especially fun since Rocco loves meeting new people. He seems to adore kids around 4 and up but doesn’t quite understand what a toddler is (being face to face with a small human seems to bother him). Although he never meets a stranger when it comes to people, dogs are a little different. He seems to like smaller dogs, as he tends to give off a warning growl with the bigger pups. He’s never bitten anyone, but we’ve also been careful about that. We’re still trying to figure out his demeanor by taking him to dog park. So far, just the warning growl comes out. Maybe he just doesn’t like the whole play thing yet? He is also an alpha dog and would likely do much better with a dog that isn’t. He would also NOT do well with an overly active puppy.
He knows all the basic commands and gets really excited for his treats (we usually provide boiled chicken for commands). So far he’s not a big fan of “speak” since he’s a quiet boy. We’ve heard him bark maybe a total of five times, but it’s really more of a “huff”. Rocco takes treats like a gentleman and it is quite hilarious to watch his slow-mo treat grab. As far as toys go, he will play with a ball or a stuffed animal for about 30 seconds and he’s done.
He would do better with a not-so-busy lifestyle since he has an old injury that seems to act up if he walks/runs a little too much. He also gets sick on car rides, so we always give him a pill for that and wait thirty minutes. Don’t give him a pill five minutes prior, as he WILL throw up. He also needs a fortified backyard that is fenced since he will search every square inch of your fence for an opening to escape. It took him a week to realize he couldn’t get out and finally stopped looking. I don’t think he would try too hard, though. For example, he won’t go out of his way to dig under the fence, so don’t worry too much. He likes the route of least resistance. As far as potty-training he’s never once pottied on our wood/tile floors, but carpet is still confusing to Rocco. Since we have new carpet, we’ve tried to keep him off of it at night but if given the chance he will potty on the carpet when he really needs to go. I do believe it will be easy to get him out of this habit, so please be patient with Rocco. He’s still learning how things work indoors since he was a stray or kept outside most of his life. He’s a fast learner, though, so this shouldn’t take too long. Trust me when I say you will fall in love with this gentle giant. Rocco is an amazing pup and deserves a loving furever home.
Rocco weighs 60lbs, is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped.
