My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** ESA/THERAPY/SERVICE DOG CANDIDATE ! **
*** EXPERIENCED BREED OWNERS ONLY, PLEASE ***

'LOBO' is an outgoing, 1.5 yr old, 120+ lb., Newfoundland mix male who we rescued from a hoarding situation. Lobo is MAGNIFICENT, and our nickname for him is "El Magnifico". He is simply a gem of a dog in so many ways. Exceptionally handsome; smart; loving/affectionate but not smothering; loyal; likes to be close to you and spend time with you; enjoys hugs, taking leisurely walks; etc. He is great around people, and is relatively indifferent to most dogs. He now walks GREAT on a leash after months of training (he is a strong boy, and when younger, could have a bit of willfullness). Being a Newfie, he needs a calm, confident, breed-specific experienced, athletic owner that practices positive reinforcement training is a must. With this combination of owner/handler, Lobo is amazing and flourishes. Lobo is young, so when pairing with other dogs, he might be exuberant, and could pester an older dog to play. As this can be overwhelming to older, calm natured dogs. If he is to be a companion dog for a resident dog, the other dog needs to be of equal size, and realize and be okay with Lobo vying to be top dog in the household. Lobo is good with children, but due to his size and age, the kids in the house should be teenagers or older.
LOBO is neutered; fully vaccinated, de-wormed, micro-chipped, on monthly heart-worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. This rescue does not do it's own 'shots' ... all medical care is done by a licensed, certified Veterinarian or done under their direct supervision (ex., monthly heartworm treatments &/or deworming). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.
