Wonderful, kind soul!

UPDATE 2/25/22:

Nutmeg is a very feminine looking Fox Hound (mix).  Her big dark eyes seem to say “I’ve seen hard times.”  This pretty girl is approximately 3 years old and came to us way underweight.  Now, after good care, she has become beautiful and slender looking, rather than skin and bones. When she came to us, she was Heart-worm positive, but we treated her for it and she is Heartworm free now.

Nutmeg was adopted by a very loving family who cared for her as she went through her treatments.  They gave her love, helped her stay calm, and encouraged her to learn good house manners.  Unfortunately, though they loved her and said she had learned great skills, they had to return her to us, after they discovered she found certain places and food too important to not protect with teeth. These folks felt it was too risky to keep her with them because they have a young grandchild who visits. During the time she was with them, Nutmeg was on the drug Prednisone which has been know to cause guarding behaviors in some dogs.  Read about that on this link:

Nutmegs' prior caretakers said:

She responds to COME.  She knows GO POTTY and SIT.  She was learning STAY and OUT.

Nutmeg walks well on a leash with harness.  She is generally quiet.  She likes a Kong Wobble Treat Dispenser.  She might tear up cloth things and she is very food driven.

She just created a new game she plays by herself at the shelter.  She tosses a toy up into the air and catches it.  Then she dances around with in her mouth.  It is a very cute routine to observe!

If you understand how to work with guarding behaviors and are interested in helping a dog that has been challenged by a past hard life, perhaps you will consider adopting Nutmeg.  She will surely spice up your life and you hers.
