For Adopt a Pet and the PEDIGREE® brand, October is all about finding homes for dogs in shelters. Adopt this month for a PEDIGREE® Wet Food Pouch and a chance to win a Homecoming-style photo shoot and shelter donation.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Cookie (was Basil) had a rough time of it these last months--about a month ago, she was observed being thrown out of a car. A good Samaritan grabbed her to make sure she was not injured and took her to the shelter. She has a microchip, so her owner was located. He came down to the shelter and was horrified at what he saw. She was thin, still heavy with milk from nursing, and had some hairloss. See, he had given her away, "free to a good home" on Craigslist, a few months ago. Back then she was a healthy, happy young puppy.
The new owners assured him they would take good care of her. Who knows what happened in those months, but like many of the animals given away so easily and freely, we can only surmise that she wasn’t kept as a family pet--more likely used for breeding purposes and then thrown away like so much trash when no longer needed. The former owner would not take her back. The folks he gave her to did not return his calls – what a shock. So, sweet Cookie was rescued by German Shepherd Rescue of Central Texas.
She’s a petite chocolate lab/terrier mix (38 lbs.). Quoting from her shelter record, “her enthusiasm and friendliness for people is heartbreaking considering what she’s been through. She runs up with happy face and a whole body wag to greet all visitors at her kennel."
Now in the care of the rescue group, she has been completely vetted and is very healthy. The hair loss turned out to be only from her ordeal of being dumped from the car. She has been spayed and is up to date on all her vaccinations and heartworm preventative. Cookie is currently staying at a kennel, so we don't have as much personality information on her as we'd like.
We do know that she'll need a tall wooden fence, as she can scale a chain link one. She also is a good car rider, good on a leash, and friendly to all people and other dogs.. Cats--?? She was very cooperative at the vet's office, and easy to travel with.
Please call (512-264-4220) or email hmsusieq@yahoo.com for Caryn Cluiss for an adoption application and a personal appointment to meet Carly A home visit and a vet check are made prior to adoption. The adoption fee is $150 and an adoption contract must be signed.
