Hello, my name is Simba. I am going to be honest here: new people scare me!!!, and I am not going to make it easy to gain my trust! It is going to be a project to become my friend, so I need someone VERY persistent who is up for the challenge. I have learned that I can make new people leave me alone by growling at them, or by snapping in their direction when they try to pet me or come near me. Once you are my friend that I trust though, we will be great friends! I am very sweet and love to cuddle. I am playful and silly once I relax. I tend to be a bit skittish about anything new, and thus my best match will be a homebody/homebodies where I do not have to change my environment often. I will not be suitable to a household with a lot of people (ie: a bunch of roommates as I am not going to befriend a lot of people any time soon. I am not suited to doggie day care/ boarding situations/ etc. Even going to the vet was rough during covid when my people couldn’t come along. I am sometimes picked on by other dogs (and get sometime defensive myself) so I am also not suited for dog parks. I do like certain other dogs if they are gentle with me. I like my sister Snow White, a lot (who will need to be adopted with me, as at least I follow her around and relax a tiny bit more when she is around). So, if you are looking for one of those ‘normal’ pups that will trust you from the day you meet, and trust everything you do… I am not that guy!!! My fear is the only reason I am being listed as secial needs.
My history: I was one of 9 puppies born after our mommy was pulled from a very high kill shelter in Houston, TX (on the day she was to be put to sleep, as she was very pregnant with us, and they had no place for her). I was born 10/7/2016. My siblings and I have been trying to find homes in Houston since we were little, but it is very hard to find people there that want to take care of us the right way. We sat at hundreds of events, and people would say how cute we were, but we never found our places. That is when the rescue started placing others in the Seattle area. That was going so well, they decided to move, with all of us, up to this area. We just arrived here a short time ago. I have one brother and sister that have found their homes, so I decided it is my turn to give it a go. I am really really sweet and loving, I just need time to get to know you and trust you. Our mommy was of a nervous temperament, and I think we naturally are that from her. My 2 siblings that went with their families have required patience and loving support. I hear they are doing great now, but they growled and were very timid the 1st few days… I’m sure I will be the same way. We have had a lot of changes lately. Once you give me a chance though, and I trust you as I do my foster family… I become a real ham. I love to play. I love to sleep with you. I love to hang out and do whatever you are doing. I do fairly well with going potty where I should as long as you keep me on a bit of a schedule. I know how to use potty pads or go outside (though for the 1st weeks I will need potty pads only, as I am too fearful to walk or move outside with new people). I am fairly small, so we little ones can only hold it so long though. I probably won’t ever be great with small children, as they are not too familiar to me, except a few bad experiences at adoption events. I do ok with other doggies as long as they are not too intimidating, but I probably won’t ever flourish at daycare or dog parks. I am happier just being around my person/ people. I don’t mind kitties… my foster family has a few… some like to play, some do not… I have learned to stay away from kitties that tell me they do not want to play, and I give them their space. Well, that is all for now… time to go play. Let my rescue people know if you’d like to meet me, and after you fill out an application to be an approved adopter, they will schedule a time for us to meet each other. Oh, I am fully vetted and up to date on my healthcare too.
Adoption fee: $550 (this includes a leash/ harness for him, a few other supplies)
