Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Shep is a stunning black tri Male Australian Shepherd. In February he will be 2 years old. He is a standard Australian Shepherd at 60lbs. Shep is an AUSSOME pup that wants to please, but is stubborn and wants to lead. He needs an experienced Aussie owner and a strong leader. However, Shep is TOTALLY a typical Aussie, he is a velcro, he is loyal, he is a snuggle bug and wants to lead.
Shep might be best as an only dog. He likes to play with dogs but if human food falls on the ground, he will challenge another dog for it. Shep would do fine with another dog as long as the other dog doesn’t challenge him for that food. He is fed separately in another room away from his 4 legged foster siblings.
Shep is great with kids. We recommend kids 8+ years old. When kids cry he wants to kiss and hug them and make them feel better. Shep is not good with cats. Dog savvy cats; don't like him and he growls and nips at them. Shep has good recall when his name is called. He will bond quickly. His vocabulary is HUGE!
Shep is SUPER smart! He is continuing to learn new things each day and loves to learn new things! He knows how to “sit”, “no” “up, crate” “dance” “dinner” “breakfast” “off,”so he knows he shouldn’t jump up, he is working on paw/shake and down. When you say, wiggle butt” he wiggles his butt non stop with a huge smile on his face! He is so silly! Shep doesn’t like the word “no” because he knows that he is doing something wrong; He wants to please his human. If someone wanted to train this boy to do tricks, he would love it! On a scale of 1-10, he is a 7 for energy. Shep also has an off switch, but he needs to be told, “let’s go lay down and settle down.”
He is crated at night and sleeps well in his crate. He will bark a little when he goes in but settles down quickly and sleeps through the night. When he first came to ASF, he would jump up on everyone he met! His foster mom and dad have been working REALLY hard on that with him! For example, when someone comes in the house, the person coming in, needs to turn around and say NO in a stern voice and he will stop.
Shep LOVES to play fetch! Someone with a chuck-it ball launcher would be his best friend! Looking for the love of your life? Shep would love to be that guy!. Shep is a young Aussie and needs both mental and physical stimulation to live his best life. Shep is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and on monthly prevention. Shep is being fostered in Pontiac MI.
