My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🌈ADOPT PESO🌈 Heather's Foster Dogs
Although I’m not destined to become as famous as Prancer, the “demonic” Chihuahua with the foster bio that went viral, I’m also a slightly devilish little Chihuahua hoping to catch the eye of that perfect someone.

I’m Peso, and I’m around 13 years old and 10 pounds. I was originally rescued by HFD by way of arriving at Animal Control as a stray back in 2017. I was adopted out to an elderly woman and became her cherished companion and lap dog. Sadly she passed away in late 2020, and I found myself back at my original foster home, a place that was familiar and comforting to me.

Temperament: The famous Chihuahua ‘tude. I’ve got all the usual & customary traits like trembling, lip curling and rumbling when I’m annoyed. Not only am I camera shy, I go out of my way to look as ridiculous as possible anytime my foster mom tries to take decent pictures of me. I’ll look sweet as pie and then when her phone comes out I immediately start closing one eye, sticking my tongue out and trying my best to look unappealing. I’m not a complete jerk, but I do like to lay in wait under a blanket on the couch, just daring one of the other dogs to try and snuggle up next to me. I love burrowing under the covers with my favorite person.

Health-wise I’m in pretty good shape. I’m not on any meds currently and just need regular nail trims like most dogs. Typical of small dogs my age I have pretty bad teeth. The rescue had a dental done on me in 2017 and all but 7 were removed but honestly, the ones that are still left don’t look the greatest either. Good luck brushing my teeth, I’m not having it. The best that I’ll put up with is a dental additive in my water. I oddly still like to crunch on dry food, although my foster mom insists on mixing it with soft food.

I’m fostered with other dogs and cats but honestly, I have no use for them. Why they try to get me to cuddle and play is beyond me. I can co-exist with other pets that just ignore me and let me do my thing, but my ideal set up would be a single person/people only home. Netflix & chill is my kind of evening. Sunning out in the yard is great too.

Kids? Nope. If you pick me up the wrong way or try or bother me while eating I get snappy. So kids over 12/teens/adults are required.

I’m pretty much housebroken but I do appreciate having a pee pad available on the floor of a spare room for when it’s raining or freezing cold outside.

If you aren’t completely horrified and are still reading this, let me tell you the good news. I love people and honestly can’t wait to snuggle in with my foster parents every night. If you have been feeling lonely, out of sorts, or just need somebody there (and let’s face it, this past year has been a wild ride for us all), I’m your guy. I’m low maintenance and chill but have enough of a personality to entertain and be a great companion. I’m not excessively yappy and only bark when I’m excited about my food being served or when somebody delivers a package from Amazon. If somebody breaks into the house I might yap just enough at them to send them running. I don’t take up much space and am perfect for apartment, condo, or house living. I’m already neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm negative and on prevention, and microchipped. I have a special senior adoption fee of $150.

I’m currently being fostered in the south suburbs of Chicago and we do not adopt out of the local area/across the country. If you are interested in meeting me please visit www.heathersfosterdogs.org to download and submit your application online. No meet and greets will be set up without an application filled out first.
