Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tommy is an adorable little male yorkie who is 9-1/2 years old and weighs 7 lbs. Tommy is being fostered in Vero Beach, FL.
Due to Covid-19 all dogs fostered in the state of Florida must be adopted within the State of Florida.
UPDATED BIO 01/17/2021: Tommy has been in his foster home almost 5 weeks now. He is doing great and is nicely falling into a routine. The yeast infection he had when he arrived is gone and his missing hair from fleabite dermatitis is growing back to reveal a beautiful, shiny golden coat. Tommy’s house-training is still on-going and he is now using a pee-pee-pad in the house – this is great progress. Walks in the evening are one of his favorite things to do; he dances around so fast that foster mom sometimes has a hard time getting his leash on lol! Once he is leashed-up, he is a perfect gentleman and loves this special time. When walking in the neighborhood everyone that Tommy meets comments on how cute he is and his foster parents totally agree!
Although Tommy is very sweet and follows his foster mom everywhere, he is also on the shy side, so he prefers to first approach strangers instead of having them approach him. Whoever adopts Tommy will be very lucky to have this adorable little fella in their home. Tommy has received all of his vaccinations and also had a dental and labs. Unfortunately, the labs showed that Tommy has a bladder stone. A special diet was given to him for four weeks to hopefully get the stone to dissolve, but sadly this wasn’t the case. Tommy must have surgery called a cystotomy to open the bladder so that the stone(s) can be removed. This surgery is scheduled for early February. After he has recuperated from his surgery, Tommy will be ready for adoption. His foster mom will be looking for a forever home where he has at least one stay-at-home parent as he gets anxious if left alone for more than a couple of hours.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING AND KEEP THESE THINGS IN MIND BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT TOMMY:
- We do not know if Tommy has been around children, but due to his small size, he cannot be adopted into a home with children under the age of 14 years old.
- Tommy absolutely needs a companion dog in his home close to his age and size.
- Tommy needs a home where there is at least one stay-at-home parent.
******** The cost of Tommy’s bladder surgery is expected to be approximately $1,000. When responsible rescue groups like United Yorkie Rescue bring in foster dogs, they often don’t come with vet records to indicate that they have been regularly vetted. But once we have a dog in our group, they are fully vetted with labs/dentals and if necessary, any necessary surgeries. If your heartstrings have been moved by little Tommy’s story, please consider donating to the cost of his bladder surgery. Your donation will allow UYR to continue to bring in little needy dogs like Tommy and take care of any medical issues they may have. Just click on the Donate button below to donate to Tommy. A HUGE Thank You to all of our rescue angels who donate to Tommy’s vetting expenses…………********
